Blisters in the throat can result from:

  1. Viral infections: Common causes include herpangina, hand, foot, and mouth disease, or herpes simplex virus.
  2. Bacterial infections: Strep throat may also cause throat blisters.
  3. Thrush: A fungal infection causing white patches and blisters. Acid reflux: GERD can irritate the throat and cause sores.
  4. Throat cancer: persistent sores, ulcers, or lumps in the throat that do not heal and are accompanied by symptoms like difficulty swallowing, unexplained weight loss, or hoarseness could be signs of throat cancer.

If symptoms include pain, fever, or difficulty swallowing, see a doctor for diagnosis. They may suggest a throat swab, blood test, or endoscopy. Treatment typically involves antiviral, antifungal, or antibacterial medication, depending on the cause. Lifestyle changes and antacids may help with acid reflux. If symptoms persist, especially with difficulty swallowing or other concerning signs, further evaluation, such as a biopsy, may be needed to rule out cancer.
