Hello Mr Mukul,

We understand how discomforting it can be to manage Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS), especially when relief seems hard to find. Since you’ve already consulted a doctor and haven’t seen much improvement, here are a few strategies that might help:

  1. Dietary Adjustments: Research shows that modifying your diet can significantly impact IBS symptoms. One highly recommended approach is the Low FODMAP Diet, which involves reducing certain fermentable carbohydrates that can trigger IBS. According to a recent study published in Gastroenterology (2023), patients following this diet experienced a significant reduction in symptoms. It’s advisable to work with a dietitian who can guide you through it safely.

  2. Stress Management: Stress has a profound effect on IBS symptoms. Techniques such as mindfulness meditation, yoga, and cognitive-behavioral therapy (CBT) have been shown to reduce IBS symptoms by lowering stress levels (American Journal of Gastroenterology, 2022). If stress is a significant factor for you, incorporating these techniques might offer some relief.

  3. Medication Review: Since your current treatment hasn’t worked well, it may be worth revisiting your doctor to discuss alternative medications. Some people find relief from antispasmodics, fibre supplements, or even low-dose antidepressants for symptom management.

  4. Probiotics and Hydration: There’s growing evidence that probiotics can help balance gut bacteria and alleviate IBS symptoms (Journal of Clinical Gastroenterology, 2022). Staying hydrated is also key, especially if you go to the bathroom frequently, as dehydration can worsen symptoms.

  5. Consult a Specialist: If your symptoms persist, it might be helpful to consult a gastroenterologist for a more in-depth evaluation. They can recommend further diagnostic tests or treatments that target specific IBS subtypes.

Managing IBS often requires a combination of dietary, lifestyle, and medical interventions. Keep communicating with your healthcare provider to find the approach that works best for you.

If you need help finding a specialist or have further questions, you can use the 'Doctor Consultation' option on the HexaHealth app.

Take care and stay strong.
