Dr. Muffazal Lakdawala

Dr Muffazal Lakdawala is a well-known Chief General Surgeon at Digestive Health Institute and Director of Surgery, at the Department of General and Minimal Access Surgical Sciences at Sir H.N. Reliance Foundation Hospital and Research Centre, Mumbai. He has 32 years of experience in General Surgery and worked as an expert Surgeon in different cities of India.

Dr Muffazal Lakdawala is the only Indian surgeon to have demonstrated live surgery in almost every Asian country. He was the first surgeon to conduct laparoscopic gastric bypass in India. To date, he has performed the largest number of single-incision sleeve gastrectomy surgeries in the world.

Dr Muffazal Lakdawala did his MBBS from the University of Mumbai in 1991. He also completed his MS in General Surgery from B.Y.L. Nair Charitable Hospital, Mumbai in 1996. His academic contributions have been extensive, with almost 20 international papers published in peer-reviewed journals. He has published a Silver book on “Sleeve Gastrectomy".

Dr Muffazal has been trained for Bariatric Surgery at the University of Ghent Hospital in Belgium, and at the Cleveland Clinic in the USA by Dr. Raul Rosenthal. He is also trained in Advanced Laparoscopic Colorectal Surgery by Prof. Seon Hahn Kim from Seoul, Korea.

He is also an active member of the International Honorary Member of the Japan Society of Endoscopic Surgery (JSES), the Asia Pacific Metabolic and Bariatric Surgeons Group (APBSG), the Obesity Surgeons Society of India (OBSI), etc.
